Sign Up Today for the Anne Frank Memory Walk: Film-Making Project!

Saturday, May 23, 2015 – Wednesday, May 27, 2015 9am – 5pm

Openings for the film-making segment of the Anne Frank Memory Walk project have opened up for youth 29 years old and under!

This is a unique opportunity to work with video-editors from Anne Frank House of Amsterdam in creating short films exploring the history behind some of our city’s monuments and engage with the public about the importance of memorializing spaces and stories.

FREE! ASL interpretation has been secured!

We are seeking youth who are:
•    29 years old and under living in and around Vancouver
•    Interested in gaining and enhancing your film-making and video-editing skills
•    Keen on learning social justice history in Vancouver
•    Willing to share what you learn with diverse communities

Please note: a commitment to all five days of the planning and filming sessions are mandatory, as well as the orientation on May 16. however we encourage everyone to apply. Participants missing class are responsible for informing their school. A letter of support from PeerNetBC will be provided.

Project Description

May 16th, 2015 and May 23rd, 2015 – May 27th, 2015
* Must be able to commit to all five sessions of planning and filming, including orientation on May 16.

•    Attend the Downtown Historical Diversity Bus Tour for orientation, and to look for inspiration for the film (May 16th)
•    Participate in full day planning and filming sessions
•    Research a particular monument in Vancouver commemorating discrimination, and film and interview people’s perceptions of it on the street
•    Create a film with the guidance of professional editors on cultural and historic monuments in Vancouver and their messages and meanings
•    Explore and uncover untold stories of Vancouver’s history—present and past
•    Share the film and engage community groups in conversations about the naming of monuments and explore alternative options
