Vancouver Breast Cancer Support Group
Women who are experiencing or who have experienced breast cancer are welcome to participate in this drop-in peer support group. The group is held the second Thursday of each month from 6 - 8pm at the Canadian Cancer Society office (565 West 10th Ave. in Vancouver.) Parkinson Society of BC Seeking Support Group Facilitators
The Parkinson Society has a network of 47 self-help support groups throughout BC, all led by volunteer facilitators. The facilitator role is often undertaken by a current group member but in some instances the position is filled by a volunteer in the community. Groups operate in a variety of ways, some focussing on discussion, some on speakers, and most combining both activities. Grief Support Group for Youth
A drop-in grief support group for youth aged 12 - 18 years now runs every Thursday evening starting at 8:30 at the Broadway Youth Resource Centre (691 East Broadway.) This is a safe and understanding place for youth to get support. Come and share or just listen to others. For more information, call Edward 604-254-7732 or John 604-709-5720.
Vancouver/Burnaby Twins and More Club
This a family-focused group whose goal is to provide practical, emotional and social support to multiple birth parents and their children during the pregnancy, infant, toddler and preschooler stages. The group meets on the first Sunday of the month from 10am - 12pm and topics vary month to month. Drop-in fees are $2 - $4 per family, and meetings are held at the Jericho Programming Site near West 4th and Alma. For more information visit www.vancouvertwins.ca.
Bereavement Walking Program
This program is for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one and who are interested in joining others who are also grieving while sharing the fresh air and gentle exercise. The group gathers rain or shine Wednesdays or Saturdays and walks for an hour at a casual pace, ending the session with coffee and conversation. Sessions start January 27 and January 30. The group gathers at the Planetarium at 9:45am and begins the walk at 10am sharp. To pre-register for this free program, email sharowitz@shaw.ca or adwong@telus.net.
Parents of Youth with Disabilities - East Side
Do you have a child with Special Needs leaving high school soon (grade 10, 11 & 12)? If you do, transitioning into the adult world is just round the corner. We are a group of parents who have “been there and done that!” We would like to share our experience and help make this transition easier for you than it was for us. Come for a coffee and information session at the Network of Inner City Community Services (#309 – 877 East Hastings) on Monday, January 25th from 6:30 - 8:30pm.
